October 4 is National Taco Day! Tacos are believed to have originated among workers in Mexico’s silver mines during the 1800s, then boomed in popularity as taquerias began appearing to sell the inexpensive but filling meals.
According to a National Today survey on taco-eating habits, 95% of consumers love tacos. Of those respondents, 26% said steak is their favourite taco filling, followed by lamb, beef or goat (24%), chicken (18%), other (8%), pork (7%), pork sausage/chorizo (4%), vegetables (4%), beef tongue/lengua (4%), adobo pork (2%), and fish (2%).
