New food technology and changing operating requirements are transforming the way food and beverage companies work, as well as the employee skills they require. Following are just a few of the emerging and in-demand jobs now available in food and beverage manufacturing.
What They Do: Production managers are responsible for overseeing the food and beverage manufacturing process during production shifts, ensuring it runs effectively. That may include ensuring orders are met, managing staff, reviewing shift reports, and scheduling production activities.
Necessary Skills & Education: Good organizational and leadership skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong communication skills. Production managers may need technical expertise in areas such as food and occupational safety.
Sanitation Supervisor/Lead
What They Do: The sanitation supervisor or team lead ensures sanitation practices are in compliance with government regulations, food safety, and company standards. They may be involved in designing, implementing, completing and inspecting sanitation processes, programs and documentation, as well as training, scheduling and supervising sanitation staff.
Necessary Skills & Education: Good organizational and leadership skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong communication skills. The role may require technical expertise in areas such as technology, cleaning chemicals used in the food industry, and food safety.
What They Do: Millwrights, also known as industrial mechanics, install, maintain, disassemble, reassemble and repair industrial and mechanical equipment and components in the production facility. They may use computer-assisted design (CAD) software, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other technology to monitor, diagnose and file reports on production equipment.
Necessary Skills & Education: A millwright is a Red Seal occupation requiring qualification through education and/or apprenticeship programs. It requires strong problem-solving, planning and organizational abilities.
