The quick-service food sector took a hit like all sectors of the food world during the pandemic, but things are already starting to improve. According to Statistics Canada’s latest figures, there were 39,470 limited-service food business locations in Canada in June 2022, up from 38,823 in June 2020. The sector also recorded more than $3.1 billion in sales on a seasonally adjusted basis in August 2022, 10.4% higher than in August 2021. The limited-service sector has outperformed the general foodservice and accommodation sector, which in July 2022 had 62,361 business locations, compared to 62,865 locations in February 2020.
