  • Diageo has acquired Vivanda, the company behind the beverage maker’s What’s Your Whiskey digital platform, allowing it to expand the FlavorPrint technology to other categories. 
  • Puratos is hosting a Food Innovation Challenge for startups developing technologies to enhance gut health. 
  • SCiFi Foods has produced the first cultivated beef developed by single-cell suspension, something it says is an industry first. 
  • Check out this year’s listing of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, numbers 100 to 51 at least. Sponsors S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna will reveal the Top 50 online on July 18, 2022. 

 

Did you know? 

Consumers across Canada are returning to restaurants and bars. According to Statistics Canada, restaurant and bar sales have surged above pre-pandemic levels for the first time in two years. Year-over-year sales in March 2022 jumped 35 per cent compared to March 2021, 62.9 per cent compared to March 2020, and 4.9 per cent compared to March 2019. StatsCan points to pent-up demand for the rise in sales. While there’s clearly pent-up consumer demand, inflation and the increasing cost of raw materials and other inputs may dampen sales throughout the summer.
