A lot of material comes across our desks at CFIN, and we love to share new information with YODLers! This one in a series of articles highlighting what CFIN staff are reading, listening to, watching, and posting. This time we’re checking in with CFIN’s vice president of Programs, Alex Barlow.
I just finished a C.S. Sansom book called Tombland. C.S. Sansom writes these huge books about a lawyer back in the 1500s. I’ve always been a sucker for long mysteries set in the way back times, I inherited that interest from my father.

Recently I’m obsessed with a band called Lake Street Dive that a friend introduced me to. Podcast wise, I really like The Big Story which is a daily 20- to 30-minute episode on Canadian topics – recent ones around grocery prices, single-use plastics, or how our cup of coffee helps us understand global inflation are some favourites. My listening habits, unlike my reading habits, are all about short and sweet!
Most of my “following” these days happens on Instagram. I really enjoy Dr. Rhonda Patrick, who focuses a lot on the science behind health and longevity. On a more professional basis, I follow groups like Foresight Canada and many of the “Top 50” style lists on LinkedIn to understand who the great up and comers are in this country.
