Something to Celebrate

September 23 kicks off Ontario Garlic Week, which actually runs until October 2, 2022, and includes the 12th annual Toronto Garlic Festival. The festival offers garlic-lovers the chance to buy fresh garlic, taste garlic-infused recipes and products, test out the Garlic Shot Station, and even participate in competitions like the Garlic Breath Contest.

Food Facts

  • Garlic has been used for medicinal, religious and culinary purposes for more than 5,000 years. It’s thought to be the first food flavouring.
  • There are approximately 450 different types of garlic cultivated worldwide. According to the Toronto Garlic Festival, Ontario garlic comes in a variety of flavours, as well as sweetness and heat levels.
  • Kiwi, parsley, spinach and basil are all clinically proven to remove bad breath after eating garlic. Fresh fruit and lots of water also help.
  • Garlic contains many minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, including potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc and vitamin C. It’s also known to lower cholesterol levels, boost the immune system, and help prevent heart disease and cancer.

Happy YODLing!
