    Something to celebrate

June 27 marks National Ice Cream Cake day. The first ice cream cakes on record were the fruity frozen ice cream dessert bombes enjoyed during the Victorian era, created in a round mould and named for their resemblance to cannonballs. Biscuit or cake-lined bombes evolved into ice cream cakes, with the first recipes appearing in the 1870s.
